Diary COMENIUS: "Portugal"

I have participated in a COMENIUS Project. In the first day we travelled to Porto by plane. The trip was short but I was very afraid. We arrived to Porto and we waited for other participants. The first country to arrive was Austria with four girls a bit serious. The second country to arrive was Sicily with nineteen boys and girls. Greece was in the hotel. In the bus we met the girls from Italy, they were very friendly and funny. At dinner we saw for the first time the school where we would eat. It was very big and this was very similar to the school of TV series “El Internado”. In the dinning room we had dinner standing and it was very uncomfortable. The food was a bit strange and Nury and I tasted pig ears and pig hooves but we didn’t now. Imagine our face when the teacher told us what it was. That night we talked with the boys from Italy; they were also very nice and a little crazy. We went to bed early. I liked meeting new people and I didn’t like standing up for dinner.

The second day we got up early, at half past seven, the teacher used to call to get up every morning. For breakfast I had a coffee and a york and cheese sandwich. The school bus took us to the hotel at nine o’clock and took us to the school. The all schools showed our slide presentations about our countries and schools, but ours was the most beautiful. The Portuguese school principal showed us the center. It is a boarding school where they can study agriculture, hairdressing, hospitality, cooking and a lot of subjects. In the evening we had dinner and saw a show about African dance. When finished, we danced with the dancers and it was very difficult. That night the boys from Italy disguised themselves as women and we laughter a lot. I liked the African dance and I didn’t like an argument that Nury and I had.

On the third day, we went to an auditorium and the introduced the Mayor to us. There the Mayor gave a present to us. It was a blurb from the city of Peso da Regua. Then, we talked and photographed with our partners. We had lunch and went to a fabulous place: A Spa Palace. The palace was very big with extensive gardens that were very old. There are a lot of trees and I (with the teachers) we found a beautiful stone bridge where we did a lot of photos. But the best was the spa. It was a modern place very different to the palace. There were many rooms for different treatments. It was all white, clean and it smelled very well. We looked the swifts for two persons and I think that the girls fell in love with the palace. After the travel by bus we had dinner and had a free night. I liked the spa but I didn’t like the presents of the Mayor.

On the fourth day we went to Porto in a large travel by bus. We went to the cellar “Caves Porto Ferreira”, an old and famous cellar where the guide presented the history and the installations. There are enormous barrels of wine with up to 10.000 litres of capacity. It was a very humid and fresh place but very beautiful. They make a natural sweet wine because in this area the wine yards grow tin lands with special minerals that provide a sweet taste to the wine. Later we tasted the wine and it was very delicious. Later we visited the Ribeira, we took many photos and I made friendship with an enormous gull. We searched typical restaurants but, in the end, we had hot dogs in a fast food restaurant. We bought the souvenirs and returned to the school. After dinner the headmaster of the school and two teachers sang traditional Portuguese folk music and we all danced. I liked the wine of Caves to Porto and I didn’t like the long travel to Porto.

On the fifth day we went to a famous and typical restaurant where they prepared beef. The travel took three hours and the food was very simple and very expensive. We spent all day in the bus. After dinner we wrote dedications and we cried after reading. The night was very funny although a boy from Sicily gave me a punch on my nose (it wasn’t on purpose). I liked the dedications and I didn’t like the food.

On the last day we went to the airport and we said goodbye, it was very sad. We had breakfast and boarded in the plane. I liked nothing because it was very san and I didn’t like saying goodbye. I remember those beautiful moments.
